Description

Squint surgery is performed to loosen or tighten muscles of eyes with an aim to correct the misalignment of the eyes. This surgery may also help the eye work in coordination. The procedure is also known as Strabismus Surgery. There are different approaches for the procedure: Recession procedure: This involves re-adjustment of the eye muscles to help realign the eyes.Adjustable Suture Strabismus Surgery: As the name suggests, this type of surgery involves the re-adjustment of the eye muscles with the use of sutures. Symptoms

Pre Procedure

During Procedure

The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia by an experienced eye surgeon. It generally takes 40 to 60 minutes to perform the surgery. During the procedure, the surgeon will follows these steps Lid lid speculum is used to keep the eyelids open and eyes in position.An incision is made in the transperant tissue called conjuctiva to access the eye muscles and isolate the muscles.Eye muscles are re-adjusted according to the doctor's assessment.After this, they are sewn in place with dissolvable stitches. Post Procedure

After the procedure is complete, the patient may return home on the same day. Generally, the operated eye will be red for a couple of days after the surgery. Eye redness is expected to fade completely in 2 to 3 weeks. Double vision and light sensitivity are commonly experienced after the procedure. The vision will become normal in 5 to 7 days. Some patients may experience a noticable variation in moving eyes for a couple of days, as the brain learns to control the eye movements. The doctor will recommend to use eye drops as advise and avoid contact with any chemicals (like soap, shampoo, chorine).
